Abram “Abe” Janis is a Senior Principal Scientist in Breakthrough Innovation at Hollister Incorporated, where he advances early-stage research and technology development across ostomy, continence, and critical care medical devices, and where he founded and led a crowdsourced strategic foresight and technology futurism program in R&D to inform long-term innovation pipelines. In 2019, Janis founded the I.D.E.A. (Industry Discovering & Exploring with Academia) Incubator, an academic–industry partnership that has supported 300+ undergraduate and graduate students across 100+ multidisciplinary capstone projects spanning engineering, biology, data analytics, and business programs in the United States and Europe.


His work has been supported by funding from the Peer Reviewed Orthopaedic Research Program (CDMRP), the National Space Biomedical Research Institute (SMARTCAP), Enterprise Ireland, and Research Ireland. He has previously taught biomedical innovation and career development at Rush University. Janis is an inventor on >100 issued and pending patents, an author of numerous publications, serves on the Editorial Board of ASAIO Journal, and is an Associate Fellow of the Wound Healing Society.
