Hongyi grew up in Beijing, China. He received a BS in chemistry from Purdue University in 2018. During his undergraduate studies, Hongyi worked on building polypseudorotaxanes from cationic polymer with cucurbituril for controlled antibacterial activity and synthesized organic semiconducting polymers for fabricating and characterizing organic field-effect transistors. He is now co-advised by Professors Stuart Rowan and Shrayesh Patel.
