Diversity & Inclusion

The UChicago Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering advances the mission of translating advances in basic physics, chemistry, biology, and computation into new tools to address important societal problems and to create a research and teaching environment that enhances and transmits these capabilities to future generations. The school affirms a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive climate, and aims for broad representation, accountability, and participation amongst our collective PME community. The Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the UChicago Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering is charged with working in concert with the university and school administration to continuously strengthen and improve UChicago PME's working environment in matters of Diversity and Inclusion. The committee should discuss, design, propose ideas, plans, and means to evaluate and assess the status and progress of efforts in UChicago PME. Another responsibility of the Committee is to advocate for, engage, and lead all members of the UChicago PME community in participation in inclusive activities. The Diversity and Inclusion Committee should coordinate with other university units and activities where that coordination will enhance this work.

The committee shall convene approximately monthly.

The UChicago PME Diversity & Inclusion Committee shall include the Director of Academic Programs and Diversity & Inclusion (who serves as Chair), Dean, the Sr. Advisor to the Dean of Diversity & Inclusion, the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Engagement and Strategy, and one or more representatives from UChicago PME faculty, administrative staff, instructional staff, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students. Additionally, the committee will include one junior (3rd-year) undergraduate and one senior (4th-year) undergraduate representative. The committee will typically consist of approximately 15 members, with membership determined through nominations and solicitations facilitated by the Committee.

The Dean, Sr. Advisor to the Dean on Diversity & Inclusion, and The Director of Academic Programs and Diversity & Inclusion, Dean are permanent members of the committee. Undergraduate representatives join the committee in their junior (3rd) year and serve for two years. Each year, a new junior representative is selected to replace the outgoing senior representative. While no member should ordinarily serve more than two consecutive terms, there is no limit on the total number of terms that an individual may serve.
