Originally from Accra, Ghana, Elvis received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Hiram College in 2012. He went on to join the Rowan group as a PhD student in the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in August 2012.
Elvis' research focuses on creating new adaptive polymer nanocomposites with a primary focus on the filler, cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). CNCs are highly crystalline rigid rod-like materials obtained from the preferential degradation of the amorphous component of cellulose nanofibers. By altering the surface chemistry on the CNCs which influences the structure-property relationship between the filler and the matrix, interesting nanocomposites with stimuli responsive behaviors could be obtained.
