We welcome students from other institutions to come to the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering to conduct research with us.
If you’re interested in becoming a non-degree visiting student researcher, familiarize yourself with our faculty and their research areas. Then, reach out to a faculty member to inquire about the possibility of joining their lab as a non-degree visitor.
After a faculty member invites you to join them as a non-degree visiting student researcher, you will be contacted by a member of the Dean of Students Office with information regarding next steps. If you have questions, contact us at pme-admissions@uchicago.edu.

Prospective graduate non-degree visiting student researchers must be prepared to provide the following:
A CV (include this in your initial outreach to the faculty)
A personal statement describing your research interests
Your most recent academic transcript
The name of the PME faculty member who ultimately invites you to join their lab as a visiting student researcher
A completed PME non-degree visiting student application (obtained once a formal invitation is offered by a faculty member)
International students
To apply for a student visa, prospective international graduate non-degree visiting student researchers who are not US citizens or permanent residents must also provide the following:
A copy of your passport ID page
Proof of English-language proficiency TOEFL or IELTS test scores are acceptable, or an examination by interview may be arranged
Documentation of all financial support for your study at the University of Chicago. Furthermore, international visitors need to demonstrate access to funds of at least $ 7,250 per quarter
International visitors should review the information on the visa application process provided by the University’s Office of International Affairs, including health insurance requirements.

Tuition and fees
As a non-degree visiting student researcher, you must pay tuition and fees. This includes a student services fee covering health services and other on-campus services. You are also required to either purchase health insurance through the University or provide documentation of existing coverage.
