Julian Solway served full terms on the NHLBI HLBP (program project grant review) and NIH/CSR Respiratory and Applied Physiology Study Sections, and was deputy editor of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

Honors include election to the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians, receipt of the American College of Physicians–American Society of Internal Medicine Award for Outstanding Work in Science as Related to Medicine, and the Joseph R. Rodarte Award for Scientific Distinction from the American Thoracic Society Respiratory Structure and Function (ATS RSF) Assembly, and receipt of the UChicago Department of Medicine’s Arthur H. Rubenstein Mentorship Award. He has held national leadership roles as president of the ATS RSF Assembly and co-chair of the National CTSA Consortium Steering Committee.

He received a BS from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MD from Harvard University, subsequently completing residency and a pulmonary research fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
