- When:
- Monday, January 27, 2025 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
- Where:
- WERC 201B
- Speaker:
- Jukka Pekola, Aalto University, Helsinki Finland
- Description:
Superconducting quantum circuits and superconductor-normal hybrids provide a highly controllable testbed for open quantum system and quantum thermodynamics experiments [1,2]. Heat baths are formed of metallic reservoirs which can be coupled to the quantum systems and whose temperature can be controlled and measured in situ. In this talk I review my group's experiments performed over the past few years on these platforms. I will pay particular attention to pure quantum features in these and future experiments, e.g., to the role of phase coherence in thermal phenomena, and to applications of the mesoscopic absorbers in ultrasensitive bolometry and calorimetry. I will also discuss our very recent experiments on how to harness ubiquitous noise for cooling the system of interest.
