María was born and raised in Hermosillo, Mexico. In 2018, she received her BS in Materials Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Paul Zavala-Rivera at Universidad de Sonora, where she worked on the synthesis and self-assembly of peptide amphiphiles based on L-Cysteine. She then worked two years as a manufacturing engineer focusing on polymer solution casting for cannula fabrication and ultrasonic spray deposition of polymer-coated drug-eluting stents. In 2020, she became a Fulbright Fellow under COMEXUS grant and joined PME as a graduate student. María is currently pursuing a PhD in Molecular Engineering under the supervision of Professor Juan de Pablo. In her free time, she enjoys playing her ukulele and exploring different cultures, especially through languages and desserts.
