Joshua Berg joins PME as senior associate dean for administration and operations

Joshua Berg joined the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) as senior associate dean for administration and operations on April 13.

In this new role, Berg will be responsible for managing administrative staff and overseeing organizational changes. He will also lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan to deliver administrative services that can adapt to the rapid growth of Pritzker Molecular Engineering, and coordinate with PME leadership to support the school’s academic, educational, and outreach missions.

“The PME is poised to change to world for the better, and I am grateful for the opportunity to play a role in its visionary works,” said Berg. “Through building a solid culture of trust, respect, and accountability, as well as establishing clear expectations and goals, I am confident that I will help PME continue to develop their outstanding administration and lead them in supporting groundbreaking work.”

“In addition to his passion for scientific advancement and education, Josh brings over a decade of UChicago management and leadership experience in research, operations, finance, and administration,” said Matthew Tirrell, dean of PME. “We enthusiastically welcome him to PME.”

Berg most recently served as the executive administrator of the Department of Organismal Biology and Anatomy in the Biological Sciences Division. He has founded two companies centered on consumer choice-behavior prediction, one of which won the 2010 Harvard Business School's Best New Venture competition (Midwest Region).

Berg received his AB in psychology and MS in computational neuroscience from the University of Chicago, and his MBA in strategic leadership and management from the University of Kansas.

Addressing the unusual time in which he’s beginning his role, Berg recognized his role in helping guide PME until normal operations resume.

“While I fully appreciate the myriad platforms that are presently allowing us to work safely, efficiently and remotely, I am eager to meet the many wonderful people of PME face-to-face,” said Berg. “In the meantime, I hope we all stay safe and healthy in these unprecedented times.”
