- Paul Kaufman Assistant U.S. Attorney United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey
- Description:
-
One of the biggest sources of research grants is the United States government. From the National Science Foundation to the Department of Defense and NASA, billions of dollars in research flow from Uncle Sam’s pockets each year. However the consequences for grantees who do not follow federal grant administration rules can be severe, and the government has collected hundreds of millions of dollars in restitution and penalties from colleges and universities across the country.
Federal prosecutor, UChicago graduate, and grant fraud expert Paul Kaufman will discuss the ways that grant fraud has occurred in universities, examine the legal standards by which it is judged, and discuss the spectrum of consequences for the institutions and individuals involved, even those who did not intend to commit a crime. - Contact:
