Towards Sustainable Battery Recycling and Solid-State Battery Manufacturing

There is a growing interest in low-cost and scalable manufacturing and recycling methods for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Prof. Chen will discuss his group’s recent work on next-gen direct recycling methods. By leveraging advanced characterizations, they have studied the microstructure and compositional evolution of battery materials during cycling, which are compared with the recycled materials. Scaling up challenges will also be discussed. Finally, he will also talk about his group’s recent work on sulfide-based solid-state electrolytes, with focus on addressing materials challenges in chemical and mechano-chemical instability.
