Throughout her life, Katie has spent a large fraction either in a dance studio or in a research lab. During her first months in undergrad at the University of Kentucky, she joined the lab of Prof. Luke Bradley, exploring neurobiology and biochemical engineering by developing rational mutations on Calmodulin, a calcium binding protein. The work in this lab sparked her appreciation for scientific research, and much like a dancer might leap across a stage, Katie developed an interest in environmental science and jumped over to the field of atmospheric chemistry. As a graduate student, Katie developed a strong interest in studying the roots of climate change and engineering tools to help mitigate these roots. With a continued love for dance and science, Katie can be found taking dance classes around Chicago and maybe tap dancing some paradiddles while looking through data at her desk.
