Soren was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. He earned his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. While there he enjoyed many travel opportunities, including studying abroad at Imperial College London in their carbon capture pilot plant, singing through two tours in Europe with the Notre Dame Glee Club men’s choir, and acquiring two undergraduate travel grants to study the Syrian refugee crisis. In graduate school, he followed his fascination for thermodynamics to Juan de Pablo’s group in the PME, where he uses molecular simulations to study the three-dimensional structure of chromatin. Outside of lab, he enjoys running, homebrewing, and friendly conversations about big questions in science, philosophy, and theology.
