    • Cellulose nanofibers (MxG-CNFA-CO2Hs) are isolated from Miscanthus x. Giganteus.
    • MxG-CNFA-CO2Hs are isolated via a new two-step chemical oxidation.
    • MxG-CNFA-CO2Hs have a high aspect ratio of 230 and length of ca. 880 ± 300 nm.
    • MxG-CNFA-CO2Hs exhibit better thermal stability than MxG cellulose nanocrystals.
    • MxG-CNFA-CO2Hs exhibit better mechanical reinforcement than MxG cellulose nanocrystals.

    Nanocomposite adhesive films have been prepared via the oxidation of a thiol-endcapped semicrystalline oligomer with varying amounts of thiol-functionalized CNCs. Stronger substrate-bonding was achieved at temperatures where the disulfide bonds are dynamic. The 30 wt % nanocomposite adhesive was compared to some common commercially available adhesives and showed significantly stronger shear strengths when bonded to metal.

    Molecular dynamics simulations of isolated poly[n]catenanes have been conducted, along with a Rouse mode analysis. At large length scales poly[n]catenanes do not relax much slower than isolated linear polymers and are less strongly impacted by increased segmental stiffness.
