Vahid Sandoghdar, Alexander von Humboldt Professorship at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen
Description:
From nano-quantum optics to nanobiophotonics

Three decades after the advent of single-molecule spectroscopy and nanoscience, many of the original dreams have been realized. Detection of single molecules, color centers, quantum dots, rare earth ions as well as generation of single photons have become commonplace. In this presentation, I will report on some of the achievements from our laboratories, where the intrinsic sensitivity of light-matter interaction has been exploited to detect single quantum emitters and single proteins alike. In particular, I will emphasize the commonality of a set of experimental and conceptual skills that bridge nano-quantum optics and nanobiophotonics.
