Nancy Kawalek featured as 2016 TEDxUChicago speaker

Professor Nancy Kawalek, Distinguished Fellow in the Arts, Sciences, and Technology at IME, is a featured speaker at this year's TEDxUChicago event: "On the Margins." The event, taking place this Saturday at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, is currently sold out!

Kawalek is the founder and director of STAGE: Scientists, Technologists, and Artists Generating Exploration—a laboratory for devising multimedia theatre pieces in which science and technology play prominent roles in content and form.

In the STAGE Lab, an international array of professional artists, distinguished scientists, and talented students engage in a collaborative work process modeled after the exploratory investigations of science. Through this practice, STAGE stimulates and advances a deeper understanding of and support for the sciences in the public arena, catalyzes the development of art that depicts the technological age in which we live, and fosters new and imaginary methods of storytelling.

TEDxUChicago is a local, independently organized TEDx event held at the University of Chicago and organized by students at the University. Now into its sixth year, TEDxUChicago aims to provide, like TED, a platform where the smartest thinkers, greatest visionaries, and most fascinating teachers will be inspired and have the opportunity to inspire others. In the past few years, the organization has brought over 40 speakers of various backgrounds and fields to share their ideas on campus and spark discussions beyond the TEDx stage and event.
